英語(yǔ)作文 篇1
Nutrition is an input to and foundation for health and development. Interaction of infection and malnutrition is well-documented. Better nutrition means stronger immune systems, less illness and better health. Healthy children learn better. Healthy people are stronger, are more productive and more able to create opportunities to gradually break the cycles of both poverty and hunger in a sustainable way. Better nutrition is a prime entry point to ending poverty and a milestone to achieving better quality of life.Freedom from hunger and malnutrition is a basic human right and their alleviation is a fundamental prerequisite for human and national development.WHO has traditionally focused on the vast magnitude of the many forms of nutritional deficiency, along with their associated mortality and morbidity in infants, young children and mothers. However, the world is also seeing a dramatic increase in other forms of malnutrition characterized by obesity and the long-term implications of unbalanced dietary and lifestyle practices that result in chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer and diabetes. All forms of malnutrition's broad spectrum are associated with significant morbidity, mortality, and economic costs, particularly in countries where both under- and overnutrition co-exist as is the case in developing countries undergoing rapid transition in nutrition and life-style.

Xiamen is a major city on the southeast coast of the People's Republic of China. It is administered as a sub-provincial city of Fujian province .
The local vernacular is Amoy,a dialect of Southern Min,also called Hokkien.Amoy is widely used and understood across the southern region of Fujian province as well as overseas. While it is widely spoken in and around Xiamen, the Amoy dialect has no official status, and the official language of all government business is Mandarin.
Xiamen and its surrounding countryside is known for its scenery and tree-lined beaches.Gulangyu, also known as Piano Island,is a popular weekend getaway with views of the city and features many Victorian-era style European edifices.Xiamen's Botanical Garden is a nature lover's paradise. The Buddhist Nanputuo Temple, dating back to the Tang Dynasty,is a national treasure.Xiamen is also famous for its history as a frontline in the Chinese Civil War with Taiwan over Jinmen (also known as Jinmen or Quemoy) 50 years ago.One attraction for tourists is to view Kinmen,a group of islands a few kilometres away and under Taiwanese control, from Xiamen island.

英語(yǔ)作文 篇4
In recent years, credit cards have gained more popularity among college students。 With banks more focus on college market, an increasing number of college students have applied for a credit card and begun to consume by it。
The following three factors can account for the popularity of credit cards in college。 Firstly, a credit card provides overdrawing service, which is a big attraction for those students who have no much money for their domination。 Secondly, a credit card can help release financial burdens on those poor students, and hence reduce the risk of their dropping school for lacking money。 Besides, many banks make some preferential policies on credit cards, like sending a gift, lowering year cost。 Drawn by these policies, many college students apply for credit cards。
英語(yǔ)作文 篇5
the tourist trade is booming. with all this coming and going, you’d expect greater understanding to develop between the nations of the world. not a bit of it! superb systems of communication by air, sea and land make it possible for us to visit each other’s countries at a moderate cost. what was once the ‘grand tour’, reserved for only the very rich, is now within everybody’s grasp. the package tour and chartered flights are not to be sneered at. modern travelers enjoy a level of comfort which the lords and ladies on grand tours in the old days couldn’t have dreamed of. but what’s the sense of this mass exchange of populations if the nations of the world remain basically ignorant of each other?
many tourist organizations are directly responsible for this state of affairs. they deliberately set out to protect their clients from too much contact with the local population. the modern tourist leads cosseted, sheltered life. he lives at international hotels, where he eats his international food and sips his international drink while he gazes at the natives from a distance. conducted tours to places of interest are carefully censored. the tourist is allowed to see only what the organizers want him to see and no more. a strict schedule makes it impossible for the tourist to wander off on his own; and anyway, language is always a barrier, so he is only too happy to be protected in this way. at its very worst, this leads to a new and hideous kind of colonization. the summer quarters of the inhabitants of the cite universities: are temporarily re-established on the island of corfu. blackpoll is recreated at torremolinos where the traveler goes not to eat paella, but fish and chips.
the sad thing about this situation is that it leads to the persistence of national stereotypes. we don’t see the people of other nations as they really are, but as we have been brought up to believe they are. you can test this for yourself. take five nationalities, say, french, german, english, american and italian. now in your mind, match them with these five adjectives: musical, amorous, cold, pedantic, native. far from providing us with any insight into the national characteristics of the peoples just mentioned, these adjectives actually act as barriers. so when you set out on your travels, the only characteristics you notice are those which confirm your preconceptions. you come away with the highly unoriginal and inaccurate impression that, say, ‘a(chǎn)nglo-saxons are hypocrites’ or that ‘latin peoples shout a lot’. you only have to make a few foreign friends to understand how absurd and harmful national stereotypes are. but how can you make foreign friends when the tourist trade does its best to prevent you?
carried to an extreme, stereotypes can be positively dangerous. wild generalizations stir up racial hatred and blind u to the basic fact—how trite it sounds! –that all people are human. we are all similar to each other and at the same time all unique.
